Your baby's mattress is subjected to all sorts of mattress mishaps. This is imminent as your baby spends most of their time here. But before you pull your hairs out with the seemingly difficult task of cleaning your mattress, you need to know a couple of things.
First, do not soak the mattress through and through. The inside of the mattress will have a difficult time drying up. Moisture combined with humidity is the best breeding ground for molds and you surely would not want to let your baby sleep on a moldy mattress.

So here is what you can do:
Step 1: Mix half a cup of baking soda with a cup of white vinegar and mix it with 4 cups of warm water. If it is a memory foam mattress, go for room temperature water. Pour this solution in a spray bottle or just put it in a basin.
Step 2: If you are using a spray bottle, just spray both sides of the mattress with the mixture. If you are using a basin, get a sponge or a clean towel, dip it in the mixture and brush the surface of the mattress with it. Give it a bit of rub to help the solution penetrate deeper in the mattress.
Step 3: Leave the solution on for an hour or so. This will get rid of stains and mattress smell. After more than an hour, get back to it and spray clean water over the mattress. Just spray it and not soak it through.
Step 4: Get a mild detergent and dissolve it in water. Brush the suds only on the mattress using the sponge. This will further help clean the mattress. Also, it will help get rid of the sour smell of vinegar.
Step 5: Once the processes above are finished, you can vacuum the mattress to get rid of dust and molds. The final step is to leave it in a sunny place to the dry completely. The sun will also fry up any bacteria or germs populating in the mattress.
This step by step procedure is pretty easy if you ask me and it works really well in getting rid of mattress stains and smell. It is imperative to do this once a month so your baby can sleep peacefully on it and you will not have to worry about using a mattress that is a breeding ground of unseen micro organisms.
